A 4-day plan for the Sant'Ambrogio and Immaculate Conception long weekend (5-8 December 2026) with La Scala opening night. Guide from the host of Casa Turati 3.
Guide written by the host of Casa Turati 3: at the end you can see how to book.
The Sant’Ambrogio long weekend in Milan runs from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8 December 2026, because 7 December is a Monday and 8 December, the Immaculate Conception, is a Tuesday. This page is a four-day plan based in via Turati for groups, built around the opening night of the Teatro alla Scala season on Monday 7 December 2026.
Dates and how it works
La Scala opens its 2026/27 season with Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello. The Theatre’s official page, read on 1 November 2026, says: “Opening Night on 7 December 2026” and “Other dates from 10 December 2026 to 5 January 2027”. It gives 6:00 pm for the Monday 7 December performance. There is also an under-30 preview on 4 December 2026.
The official page lists each date and the ticket status, which changes daily. We do not repeat it: always check the Teatro alla Scala website, the only channel the Theatre names as safe for buying tickets.
The four-day weekend is our own calendar calculation: Saturday 5, Sunday 6, Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 December 2026. Programme and times of the city’s Sant’Ambrogio events: the Comune’s website, read on 1 November 2026, has not yet published those for 2026.
Getting there from our door
From the door of via Turati 3 to the Teatro alla Scala it is about 10 minutes on foot: 850 metres along via Alessandro Manzoni (Google Maps, calculated on 1 November 2026, rounded to 5 minutes).
Four days, day by day
Saturday 5 December: arrival. Check-in is from 3:00 pm. Artigiano in Fiera starts on 5 December: the official page says “dal 5 al 13 dicembre 2026” (5 to 13 December 2026), read on 1 November 2026. Venue and entry times are not written on the page: check the website before you go.
Sunday 6 December. On the Comune’s website, read on 1 November 2026, there is no programme yet for Sant’Ambrogio 2026 nor for the 2026 edition of Oh Bej Oh Bej: the pages found only cover past editions. We will update this page when they come out.
Monday 7 December: Sant’Ambrogio and La Scala. Otello, the opening night, starts at 6:00 pm. If you have no ticket, there are performances from 10 December. The Italian page of La Scala shows tickets from 150 euros for that evening (read on 1 November 2026). The Theatre’s website does not mention screens, access or closures in the square for the evening of the 7th.
Tuesday 8 December: Immaculate Conception. Check-out is at 11:00 am. The Pinacoteca di Brera, according to its regular timetable read on 1 November 2026, is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:30 am to 7:15 pm (last entrance 6 pm) and closed every Monday, on 1 May, 25 December and 1 January: on Monday 7 December it is closed, on Tuesday 8 it is open. According to the regular hours read on 1 November 2026, the Castello Sforzesco is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm and closed on Monday; the Museo del Novecento is open Tuesday to Sunday; the Museo Poldi Pezzoli is closed on Tuesday and open on Monday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. These are weekly hours: for 8 December, a public holiday, the websites show no exceptions, but we have not checked them. On the Duomo calendar, read on 1 November 2026, this change appears for 8 December: “Variazione Duomo, Area Archeologica, Scurolo di San Carlo e scale per le terrazze – sospensione biglietto fino alle 12.30” (in Italian: ticket suspension until 12:30 for the Duomo, the Archaeological Area, the Scurolo of San Carlo and the stairs to the terraces); the calendar lists no changes for 7 December. The regular opening hours were not written on the pages we read: check the Duomo website before you go. On the ATM website, also read on 1 November 2026, no special hours or services appear for 7 and 8 December.
That means three nights (5, 6 and 7 December) if you leave on the 8th, four if you stay until the 9th.

Other Christmas and New Year events: The Comune’s website, read on 1 November 2026, has not yet published the Christmas and New Year 2026 programme (tree, markets, concert).
